Newburyport’s Master Plan recommends implementing a local bike share program to reduce car dependency for tourism and commuting. The City of Newburyport and Newburyport Livable Streets are proposing a three-year pilot program to explore how bike share would work in our City. The system could be up and running in the spring of 2025.

Such a system could benefit residents and visitors by providing a convenient and inexpensive way to get around without adding more cars to our streets, especially in the peak summer season.

How should we think about designing a better network of bicycle routes to support everyday transportation – trips to stores, to work, to school and other destinations? Such a network would overlap with recreational cycling routes, but would be designed to make cycling an easy, safe and comfortable alternative to trips by automobile.
