Newburyport Livable Streets is exploring the potential of establishing a small bike share system for our area. Such a system could benefit residents and visitors by providing a convenient and inexpensive way to get around without adding more cars to our streets, especially in the peak summer season.

Such a network would overlap with recreational cycling routes, but would be designed to make cycling an easy, safe and comfortable alternative to trips by automobile.
Green Streets — Combining Traffic Calming and Stormwater Management for a Healthier City
Converting some of the excess pavement in our wider streets into above-ground facilities that mimic natural systems would allow vegetation to slow and filter the runoff from heavy rainfall, as well as permitting some of the runoff to infiltrate into the ground rather than flow to the Merrimack.
